I have lived in my current house for over 11 years. For at least the last 2 and a half years I have been trying to get my basement finished. I have had so many estimates to finish it, but of course everyone was charging the same rate, which was at least 3 times the amount I was told that the basement should actually cost me.
I am finally realizing that the ones that tell me what it should cost always seems to be guys. Not trying to be what just came to your mind and mine, but either those people would actually be doing their own work, or there really is a different charge for men and women.
I did actually have a guy offer to do my basement for what I could actually afford, but I got nervous about letting him do it, simply because he wanted to use my basement as a guinea pig on him getting his business started. Since I would be the first basement he would do, I was pretty leary about it. I might have gone with him if I was at least a second practice run.
I ended up chosing one that was kind of high priced, but when he got here, he was pretty fast at getting the framing done, and I wasn't feeling uncomfortable letting him in my house when I wasn't home. It's just hard to drop that much money for only four days of work, LOL!
Well here are some pictures of my basement... it had a lot of junk in it, I got rid of quite a bit, but as you will see, there is still a lot more to get rid of.
